Artwork
Artwork & personalisation information
The artwork we require is a high quality representation of your design from which printers can accurately print and produce a desired image on your selected item.
Your artwork may be based on:
- Your company logo
- A picture
- Just words or text
- Any combination of the above.
Artwork is always supplied in a digital format. There are different formats required and these are listed after the various methods for personalisation of your item.
Personalisation methods
The most commonly used personalistion methods are:
Printing - There are two distinct types of printing:
- Solid colour print: either 1, 2, 3 or 4 solid colours. When printing with solid colours we will need to know the exact colour. You can choose from the Pantone chart using a Pantone reference number for the colour(s). We normally print solid colours on to gifts such as pens and T-shirts for example.
- 4 colour process print: involves different colours, tints and shades (like a picture). When printing 4 colour process we cannot always match Pantone chart colours but the colours will be a close. We often print 4 colour process onto paper products.
Printing charges: the cost of printing varies with the quantity and the number of print colours. There are also set-up charges that vary with the number of colours. Usually repeat orders have a discounted repeat set-up charge. The greater the number of colours the higher the price. The process used for printing is screen or pad printing and there is a charge for the set-up of each colour used.
Embroidery - involves mechanically stitching an image on to garments using automated and sophisticated sewing machines. As we use threads the colours must be distinct and so we cannot replicate tints and shades. Polo shirts, jackets, caps and certain bags are often embroidered.
Embroidery charges: the number of colours we embroider does not make a difference to the price, it is the size and complexity of the logo that effects the price as it is based on the number of stitches. There are set-up charges but no repeat set-up charges with embroidery. A digital tape is produced to programme the machine to embroider your design.
Laser Engraving - this involves very finely cutting an outline of the image normally into glass, metal or wood using computer technology.
Engraving charges vary with the quantity and the product to be engraved. Set-up and discounted repeat set-up charges also apply. A template is used diamond cutter.
Blocking and Foil Blocking - this involves stamping an outline of the image or stamping a colour foil of the image normally into leather and some PU items like diary covers, leather wallets and certain folders.
Blocking and foil blocking charges vary with the quantity and the product to be blocked. Set-up and discounted repeat set-up charges also apply. A magnesium block is used to make your impression.
All set-up charges are termed as origination.
Print types
Print types are the exact methods of applying your artwork to an item. The print type you select depends on two factors:
1. The item being decorated
Different items require different methods of decoration. For example we tend to engrave on metal and wood, print on paper, folders, plastic items and t-shirts, and embroider on polo shirts, caps and jackets.
In the print type drop down box on the product detail page we display only the print types available for that particular item.
2. What your artwork looks like
Until your artwork has been approved we need you to tell us what your artwork looks like based on the print type drop down list presented to you on the product detail page. Remember that we display only the print types available for that particular item.
- Printing: we need to know the number of colours in your artwork. Is the artwork 1, 2, 3 or 4 solid colours? Alternatively 4 colour process if your artwork involves a large number of colours or tints and shades.
- Embroidery: we would like to know the approximate size and complexity of the artwork. A couple of words or a name are considered simple embroidery, a logo or several words are considered normal embroidery assuming the size of the embroidery is not too big, and finally complex embroidery applies to large and/or very complex embroideries. Depending on the details of your design there may be limitations as to how small the logo can be reduced.
The main print types
- 1 Colour Printing - 1 solid colour
- 2 Colour Printing - 2 solid separate colours
- 3 Colour Printing - 3 solid separate colours
- 4 Colour Printing - 4 solid separate colours
- 4 Colour Process Printing - various tints and shades (eg a photograph)
- 5 Colour Printing - 5 solid separate colours
- Simple Embroidery - eg. a person's or company's name (1-4k stitches)
- Normal Embroidery - eg. a logo (5-7k stitches)
- Complex Embroidery - eg. a large or complex logo (8-20k stitches)
- Laser Engraving
- Blind embossing (uses a clear foil instead of coloured to create just an impression, no colour)
- Foil blocking (uses coloured foil to give a coloured logo ie silver, gold etc)
Please submit artwork at the time of confirming your order by the email link.
There is no charge for checking artwork however please make sure that it is supplied in the correct format as below. If the format needs changing or the artwork amending before we start applying your design to the items ordered we will need to make a small charge.
Artwork formats
We need to check that the format of your artwork is suitable for applying to your chosen items.
Acceptable formats include:
- Original EPS vector files - these must be original editable EPS files not converted. These files are the preferred and most suitable option, NO CHARGE.
- Jpegs, PDF files and Tiff files - acceptable but may need amending, charge £20.
- Gif, Word and Powerpoint documents - we can use these but they require a significant amount of adjusting by our artwork designers. These will always incur a one-off charge of £30 unless it is just simply text in a standard font (eg Arial font) for which there is no charge.
You can also send us your letterhead or drawing via post and we will create and upload the artwork on your behalf. This will incur a £30 one-off charge.
If you submit your artwork for approval or place an order with a new piece of artwork we will advise you of any charges before carrying out any work.
If you are not sure about your artwork or would like to know more about our artwork service you can always call us on 0870 242 0202 or email us on artwork@LogoX.co.uk and we will be more than happy to help.
On receipt of your order, payment and artwork but before production commences a digital PDF proof will be emailed to you for approval showing what your selected item will look like. At this stage you can either approve the proof, in which case we will proceed with applying your artwork to the item ordered, or you can request changes to the proof by responding to our communication. Please note one amendment is supplied free of charge and all other subsequent amendments will be charged at £15.00 per amendment.
