One way you can use promotional items is to gain some publicity about your company or brand by sending them as gifts to journalists. Many companies do this to encourage news stories about themselves, to gain recognition from future customers when they hear about the product. Its not just companies that do this, bands also often employ this tactic to encourage journalists to write positive reviews of their singles - such as Wiley sending out promotional umbrellas upon the release of his single "Summertime", making fun of the fact that we dont get the sun in sumemrtime here!
